Watch Arcade Fire Cover ‘Motownphilly’ at Philly Show
Apparently taking their cue from Bruce Springsteen, Arcade Fire have been giving fans of each show on their tour a regional gift. After covering Prince’s “Controversy” in Minneapolis, Stevie Wonder’s “Uptight (Everything’s Alright)” in Auburn Hills, Mich., Constantines’ “Young Lions” in Toronto and Devo’s “Uncontrollable Urge” in Cleveland, the group tackled Boyz II Men’s “Motownphilly” at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center.
The Unforgettable Fire: Can Arcade Fire Be the World’s Biggest Band?
After the band’s 17-song set, fake band The Reflektors appeared, giant bobble heads in tow, to “perform” Philly icon Chubby Checker’s “The Twist” before the real Arcade Fire appeared to take on the 1991 New Jack Swing hit. No Questlove cameo, unfortunately, but the band takes their best shot at the Philly-centric song.
Arcade Fire play Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Conn. tonight. Hatebreed are from Bridgeport. Michael Bolton is from nearby New Haven. You know what to do, guys.
