Watch Amish Teens Go Wild in Death From Above 1979’s ‘Virgins’ Video

A Rumspringa-fueled barnyard blowout highlights new clip from reunited dance-rock duo

Death From Above 1979 pay tribute to adolescence and its perennial corruptors of sex, drugs and rock and roll in the outlandish new video for “Virgins,” a cut off the dance-rock duo’s 2014 comeback album, The Physical World.

The sinister new clip follows a group of Amish kids in the midst of those awkward, exploratory teenage years, known in that community as Rumspringa. During that time, teens are allowed to experience the outside world and indulge in all its hedonistic offerings — and those in the “Virgins” video do not waste their newfound freedom.

Director Eva Michon paints an over-the-top caricature of adolescent revelry as the partiers ingest plants and mushrooms, use straws to snort ashes from an urn and wave their bonnets in the air like they just don’t care. Things turn particularly weird during an extended sex metaphor involving a banana and goat utters, and even weirder when one boy finishes out the night wrestling a chair. The video ends, however, with the most time-honored rite of passage: A young man — no longer a boy — waking up the next morning to find a penis scrawled in Sharpie on his cheek.

Death From Above 1979 — who split up in 2006 and reunited for several live shows before recording The Physical World — are scheduled to return to the road this summer alongside Incubus and the Deftones. The tour begins July 22nd in Clarkston, Michigan, and wraps up August 30th in San Diego, California.
