When Adele performed at Seattle’s KeyArena earlier in the week, she spotted a familiar face in the audience: her own. Local drag artist Kristie Champagne, whose real name is Kristopher Zello, was dressed in full Adele regalia and went onstage at the request of the singer.
“You look amazing, oh my gosh,” the British singer said to Champagne, who was wearing a handmade floor-length gown similar to the one Adele wears in her “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)” video. “I really love that dress,” she added, giving her doppelgänger a warm hug.
Zello performs as Adele twice a week at Julia’s in Seattle, she explained, adding, “You seriously changed my life for the better.” Later, Champagne tweeted of the experience “Dreams do come true.”
Adele has a soft spot for the legions of fans who imitate her. Last November in a BBC special, Adele pretended to audition to be an Adele impersonator for a fictitious pilot taking place at the Wimbledon Theater.
