VMAs 2018: Cardi B Fakes Out Audience With Moon Man Baby
Cardi B faked out viewers at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards by teasing a possible reveal of Kulture, her daughter with Migos’ Offset – only to unwrap a Moon Man statue she was cradling onstage in a blanket. “I am the empress,” she said before the non-reveal, leading into her introduction of Shawn Mendes’ live performance.
Cardi B leads all artists with 10 total VMA nominations, including Best New Artist, Best Collaboration (Bruno Mars’ “Finesse” remix) and Video, Song and Artist of the Year.
The performance marked Cardi B’s first major public appearance since giving birth to her first daughter. She revealed the pregnancy during an April Saturday Night Live spot promoting her debut LP, Invasion of Privacy.
In a recent Rolling Stone cover story, the rapper spoke about her relationship with Offset and the challenges of balancing parenthood with her booming career.
Cardi B has released five singles from Invasion of Privacy: “Bodak Yellow,” “Bartier Cardi” (featuring 21 Savage)“Be Careful,” “I Like It” (with Bad Bunny and J Balvin) and “Ring.”
