‘Nowadays Clancy Can’t Even Sing’ was captured in HD by a member of the audience

The highlight of Buffalo Springfield’s reunion set at the Bridge School Benefit was their performance of “Nowadays Clancy Can’t Even Sing” — which was captured in HD by a member of the audience, as you can see above. The song, which predates the formation of Springfield, is one of Young’s earliest fully-realized songs. In late 1964 he met future Buffalo Springfield bandmate Richie Furay in New York and taught him the track, which he added to his folk repertoire. A chance encounter with each other in Los Angeles a year later let to the formation of the band, but when it came time to record the song, Furay’s more traditional voice was deemed by the label to be more commercial, and he sang it. Young has occasionally played it himself over the years, but at their first performance together in forty-two years Young and Furay take turns singing lead.
