Video: Amazing Mashup of the Hit Songs of 2010

DJ Earworm’s “United State of Pop” megamix has become a welcome year-end tradition in which the DJ mashes up the year’s biggest pop hits into a seamless frenzy of familiar hooks. This year’s mix is especially heavy on dance hits, and features a chorus full of hilariously redundant exhortations to dance, party and celebrate. As usual, there is also a video for the mix that cuts bits from the songs’ videos together to correspond with the juxtapositions in the mash-up.

In another clever use of chart data, cartoonist Dorothy Gambrell has made a map that shows the song genres represented in the Billboard Top 100 singles for 2010 by the artists’ geographic location. Part of the fun here is attempting to figure out who the artists may be based on location and genre. Alternative rock from Utah? It’s got to be Neon Trees. An electronic hit from southern Minnesota? Definitely Owl City.
