Vevo, the music video site created by the two largest record companies in the country, is planning to make the leap into television. The company, which operates independently but is owned by Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and the Abu Dhabi Media Company, is in talks with cable carriers to become a television network.

According to The New York Times' sources, Vevo plans to create a channel that would emulate the early days of MTV, when the network focused mainly on playing blocks of music videos and pop culture-oriented original programming.
