Van Morrison‘s brilliant 1970 LP Moondance has been expanded to include a bevy of rarities, including alternate versions of songs from the album and outtakes from the original sessions that offer a previously unheard perspective on the creation of one of the most revered recordings in popular music.

The 11 tracks on the second disc of the expanded version include a horn-free version of “Into the Mystic,” along with newly uncovered numbers like the majestic, jazzy “Nobody Knows You When You’re Down and Out” and “I Shall Sing,” a lost and previously unreleased Caribbean-flavored song that Art Garfunkel recorded in 1973. Elsewhere, the funk-fortified “I’ve Been Working” – which surfaced in its completed form later in 1970 on Morrison’s His Band and the Street Choir – and an incendiary variation on “Glad Tidings” will appeal to the Morrison-obsessed.
The two-disc expanded edition culls highlights from the deluxe edition, which comprises four CDs and a Blu-ray audio version of the album, along with 50 unreleased tracks, all of which comes in a linen-wrapped folio. The reissues are due October 22nd; pre-order the expanded edition here.
