U2 Cancel Paris Show, HBO Special Following Terrorist Attack
In light of the horrific terrorist attacks in Paris that have claimed the lives of more than 150 people, U2 have postponed Saturday’s show scheduled to be filmed for an upcoming HBO special as part of their European tour.
“We watched in disbelief and shock at the unfolding events in Paris and our hearts go out to all the victims and their families across the city tonight,” the band wrote in a statement. “We are devastated at the loss of life at the Eagles of Death Metal concert and our thoughts and prayers are with the band and their fans. And we hope and pray that all of our fans in Paris are safe.”
A statement by HBO said that the group is “fully resolved to go ahead with this show at an appropriate time.” The concert film was set to be shot at Paris’ Bercy Arena and helmed by the band’s longtime collaborator Hamish Hamilton.
Justin Bieber has decided to continue his second “An Evening With…” show at Los Angeles’ Staples Center on Saturday night, which will be livestreamed to fans. “We decided we are going to continue with the livestream at 6PM to hopefully bring some light & hope to those hurting,” the singer tweeted Friday night.
Over 150 people were killed in six separate terrorist attacks across the city Friday night. Multiple terrorists stormed Bataclan, a music venue in Paris where Eagles of Death Metal were playing, shooting dozens of people, setting off suicide bomber belts and taking more than 100 people hostage. Michael Dorio, brother of the group’s drummer Julian Dorio, told ABC News that there were approximately 1,500 people in the venue at the time of the attack.
