In a new video campaign “Voices Against Amendment One,” Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy, Hüsker Dü’s Bob Mould and Ian MacKaye (Minor Threat, Fugazi, Dischord Records) speak out against North Carolina’s Amendment One, a proposed state constitutional amendment that would ban same-sex marriage, as well as civil unions and domestic partnerships for opposite and same-sex couples.
Also joining the cause are Laura Ballance (Superchunk, Merge Records), Caitlin Cary (Whiskeytown), Michael Lerner (Telekinesis), Matt Gentling (Archers of Loaf) and many local musicians and residents. Each individual presents a brief plea against the amendment, with MacKaye bluntly challenging voters, “Are you kidding?! Vote against Amendment One.”
North Carolina’s state primary takes place May 8th. Recent polls indicate the legislation will likely pass, despite numbers showing decreasing support.
