Trent Reznor Promises New Nine Inch Nails Material in 2010

Trent Reznor dropped a little pre-Christmas present to fans on the Nine Inch Nails Website, promising that the new year will bring new music from his new studio-only project. “2010 has a number of things planned including new material from Nine Inch Nails and something else that isn’t Nine Inch Nails,” Reznor wrote. “I am in a state of rediscovery and reinvention that feels unfamiliar, unsure and exactly what I need.”

Reznor also logged into his sporadically used Twitter for the second time this month to write “Nine Inch Nails fans kick ass. Blown away,” along with a link to a collaborative concert video that the NIN team made with their fans. Another Version of the Truth: The Gift was filmed by the NIN crew during three Lights in the Sky concerts in 2008 with high-quality cameras. Then the massive amount of raw footage was distributed to the fans, who collaborated to edit it down into a cohesive live document. The finished product — available on DVD, iPod, YouTube and, coming soon, Blu-ray — is up for free download over on the This One is On Us Website.

After 2008 featured a pair of new NIN albums, The Slip and Ghosts I-IV, the only studio output that bore the Nine Inch Nails name this year were the two tracks that featured on the NINJA 2009 Tour Sampler EP that preceded the band’s tour with Jane’s Addiction. The Nine Inch Nails touring band was put to rest this year with the Wave Goodbye tour, but the newly married Reznor promised to continue NIN as a studio project.

As for that “something else that isn’t Nine Inch Nails” Reznor mentioned, as Rolling Stone previously reported, Gary Numan discussed the possibility of collaborating with Reznor after the pair performed together during NIN’s final concerts, so we’re betting that planned partnership takes shape in 2010.
