“I couldn’t be more honored than to be working with these two straight up genius artists,” director Peter Berg wrote on Instagram, confirming the Oscar-winning duo’s involvement. “Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Bringing their deep soul and fury to Patriots Day.”
The film arrives in limited release on December 21st before opening nationwide January 13th. The cast includes Mark Wahlberg, John Goodman, J.K. Simmons, Michelle Monaghan and Kevin Bacon.
After serving solely as director David Fincher’s go-to composers in recent years – Reznor and Ross scored his The Social Network (which won Best Original Score at the 2010 Academy Awards), The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and Gone Girl – the pair have started to pick up outside projects. In September, Reznor and Ross announced they would score Leonard DiCaprio and Fisher Stevens’ environment documentary Before the Flood.
Reznor and Ross also partnered this year for “Juno,” a tribute to the unmanned probe named Juno that was launched by NASA in 2011 and finally reached its destination of Jupiter on July 4th.
While Reznor continues to pick up film projects – and help guide Apple Music – the singer hasn’t yet delivered on his December 2015 promise of new Nine Inch Nails music in 2016. “New NIN coming in 2016. Other stuff, too,” Reznor tweeted in late December.
