Travis Scott Pleads Guilty in Lollapalooza Stage Melee
Rapper Travis Scott pleaded guilty to charges of reckless conduct after encouraging fans to climb over security barricades during his set at Lollapalooza this summer, Billboard reports.
A judge ordered Scott — real name Jacques Webster — to remain under court supervision for a year. While the incident was not deadly, one 15-year-old girl was reportedly trampled in the stampede.
A representative for Scott was not immediately available for comment.
Scott’s Lollapalooza set lasted just five minutes before being shut down. In a video of the incident, the Houston rapper can be seen telling fans to jump the barricades to move closer to the stage, while telling security — whom he refers to as “everyone in a green shirt” — to move out of the way.
Dozens of fans hopped onstage, but organizers quickly cut the music and threatened to end the performance if the stage wasn’t cleared. “I wanna finish performing,” Scott told fans. “We can start over, everybody just get down.” At that point, however, the concert had been shut down and Scott reportedly vacated the scene quickly. He was arrested by Chicago police soon after.
The incident, however, is a small blemish on an otherwise big year for Scott, who released his debut LP, Rodeo, in September. The album boasts appearances from Future, 2 Chainz, Juicy J, Chief Keef, the Weeknd and Justin Bieber, as well as production from Pharrell, Mike Dean and Metro Boomin. Kanye West also provided production and a verse on “Piss on Your Grave,” and appeared alongside Scott in the track’s creepy video.
Scott is slated to open for Rihanna throughout the North American leg of her Anti world tour, which begins February 26th in San Diego.
