Justin Bieber’s month of legal woes has earned the singer his share of detractors, but there’s at least one person coming to his defense: Toronto mayor Rob Ford.

Justin Bieber’s Wild Decline: A Timeline

One day after turning himself in to Toronto police for an alleged assault on his limo driver, Bieber was the topic of conversation in an interview Ford gave to the Washington, D.C. radio show “The Sports Junkies.” When a host called Bieber “Canada’s worst export,” Ford – who has admitted to smoking crack and is being sued for masterminding the beating of his sister’s ex-boyfriend – noted Bieber’s age.

“Well, you know what, he’s a young guy,” Ford said. “At 19 years old, I wish I was as successful as he was. He’s 19 years old, guys. Think back to when you were 19.”

Ford stopped short of being a fan of the pop star’s music, though. “I don’t really follow his music,” he said. “I’m 45 years old. I like Led Zeppelin, the Stones, the Eagles.”

The Evolution of Justin Bieber

An attorney for the Ontario-born singer maintained Bieber’s innocence in connection with the assault, stating, “We anticipate that this matter will be treated as a summary offense, the equivalent of a misdemeanor in the United States.”

After his arrest stemming from a separate drag-racing incident earlier this month, Bieber will be arraigned on Valentine’s Day on charges of drunk driving, resisting arrest and driving with an expired license.
