Tomorrow’s Parties Postponed

Los Angeles edition of British festival rescheduled in wake of terrorist attacks

Citing “direct and indirect consequences” of the events of September 11th, officials of All Tomorrow’s Parties have postponed the festival’s American debut until March 15, 2002.

Originally scheduled for the UCLA campus from October 19-21, the Sonic Youth-curated event was to have featured performances by an array of big-ticket alt-rock names, including Eddie Vedder, Stereolab, Stephen Malkmus and Smog. Event officials claim that eighty-five percent of the bill will still stand, but information about specific acts is not yet available.

Sonic Youth also posted a statement on the ATP website, explaining that “personal travel anxieties, a complete halt to ticket sales and a general sense of unease due to the unpredictability of the Bush/Taliban conflict” all contributed to the decision to postpone. The band also expressed regret at delaying the event, noting that, during the country’s healing process, “a gathering of musicians, artists and poets could only have been a positive thing.”

All previously-purchased tickets will be honored in March, but those unable to attend are eligible for a refund. Three-day passes for new dates, also slated for the UCLA location, will go on sale later this week.
