Tim Roth, Tupac Recorded Together at Death Row Records

Actor recalls freestyling with rapper, ‘Gridlock’d’ co-star Thandie Newton on ‘James Corden’

Tupac took Tim Roth to Death Row Records to lay down a few tracks while the pair were filming their 1997 movie, Gridlock’d, the actor recalled on The Late Late Show With James Corden Monday.

Despite the ridiculousness of the story, Roth hasn’t shared it publicly until recently. As the actor told host James Corden, Tupac took him and their co-star Thandie Newton to see his usual workplace, “which was hilarious because a little pasty-faced London boy walking into Death Row Records was … well, people were just laughing at me.”

But not only did Tupac give them the tour, he set up Roth and Newton in the booth and had them freestyle with him. “We all rapped together, but I couldn’t keep a straight face,” Roth said. “I didn’t write a thing. He just made me say stuff.”

While Roth couldn’t recall the nature of his bars, he said the recordings are likely sitting in a vault. Corden then jumped on the chance to feign a surprise reveal, which prompted a terrified, “Oh, shit,” from Roth.

“I wish, we looked,” Corden assured him with a laugh. “Believe me, it is in a secure vault.”
