Thirty Seconds to Mars Plot ‘Camp Mars’ Weekend This Summer

Step aside Wet Hot American Summer: Thirty Seconds to Mars will be taking their fans on a musical camping trip this summer. The trio will launch a three-day camping experience called Camp Mars this August.
From August 22nd through 24th, Mars fans can flock to Malibu, California for the camping trip, where attendees can participate in activities such as “hiking, climbing, yoga, cooking classes, raising the flag and camp fire sing-a-longs,” the band said in a statement. S’mores will also be provided.
Thirty Seconds to Mars will host two different performances over the weekend alongside numerous DJ sets. Packages for Camp Mars will be sold through Adventures in Wonderland and go on sale Friday, June 19th at 9 A.M. PST.
“We have always looked to do things for our audience that are fun and unique,” singer Jared Leto tells Rolling Stone. “What better way to celebrate the summer than in beautiful Southern California with the Mars family in full.”
The band has also released a teaser video inviting fans to the event.
Following a split with Virgin/EMI last April, the band joined Linkin Park and AFI on the Carnivores tour, a 25-date North American trek that launched in August. That fall, they played New Orleans’ Voodoo Music and Arts Experience alongside Outkast, Foo Fighters and Arctic Monkeys.
Between performances with his band, Leto’s film career featured a huge milestone, as the actor snagged his first Oscar in 2014 for his performance in Dallas Buyers Club. “[A] nice thing that’s happened is there’s been some clarity and some understanding and some reclamation of public image,” Leto told Rolling Stone last May. “People have gotten to know me a little more rather than an idea they may have had of me. It’s a fringe benefit, but it’s also a really nice thing.”
