The Zombies Look Back Fondly on ‘Any Other Way’ – Premiere

British Invasion legends remember long-lost loves

Well, this was a long time coming: with “Any Other Way,” British Invasion legends the Zombies have created their first-ever music video. Arriving 49 years after the Colin Blunstone-fronted band first topped international charts with “She’s Not There,” the poignant black-and-white clip that tracks love and loss in 1920’s New York.

The video is yet another step for the band in their active 2013 – during which they also released Breathe Out, Breathe In, on which “Any Other Way” appears. Shot on location on City Island and at the Cutting Room in Manhattan, the group’s core members Blunstone and Rod Argent will return to the latter tonight to celebrate the clip’s debut with a rare piano-and-vocals performance.

The single hits close to home, as Blunstone explains. “Most of my song lyrics are literally based on personal experience. In fact, when I was much younger, my heartless manager of the time used to encourage me to end relationships, as he knew it would result in a batch of new songs!” he explains to Rolling Stone. “Nowadays, as I reach the ‘autumn of my career’ and life has slowed down a little, I usually have to draw on memories from the dim and distant past. The lyric for ‘Any Other Way’ actually begins by recalling one ‘breathtaking relationship’ and then ends referring to another completely different ‘breathtaking relationship,’ at a time long ago when the wine flowed freely and summers lasted forever.”
