The Weeknd, Jack Ü to Headline Hard Summer Festival

EDM and hip-hop’s most promising hitmakers are joining forces for Hard Summer’s 2015 line-up. With the Weekend and Jack Ü topping the list, the annual California festival, now in its eighth year, will also feature the Chemical Brothers, Schoolboy Q, ILoveMakonnen, Chromeo, Ratatat and DJ Mustard, among many others. Watch the trailer below.
The festival will be moving to a new location — Fairplex in Pomona, CA — and will take place on August 1st and 2nd. The packed lineup was announced through a hilarious video starring DJ and producer Dillon Francis, who reveals to fellow performers Chromeo that he’s decided to start playing the spoons (“real instruments,” as he dubs them) since Hard Summer is a music festival, not a rave. The cameo-packed, six-minute clip sees Francis take his “spooning” worldwide, even creating a supergroup with Porter Robinson titled Spoon Ü. Skrillex and Anna Lunoe also appear.
The Weeknd just wrapped up two Coachella weekends. For his second appearance at the massive festival, he brought out Kanye West, who treated lucky fans to a four-song mini-set featuring “Can’t Tell Me Nothing,” “Black Skinhead,” “All Day,” and his cover of Chief Keef’s “I Don’t Like.” The singer has a few summer dates slated prior to Hard Summer and will join Erykah Badu and A$AP Rocky at the Roots Picnic in May.
Fellow Hard Summer headliners Jack Ü — the superduo consisting of Diplo and Skrillex — recently dropped their debut and self-titled LP in the middle of a 24-hour DJ set. The pair will headline the Full Flex Express Tour together this July as it treks across Canada. Both will also tour with the Mad Decent Block Party, with Skrillex appearing as a solo act and Diplo touting his other non-solo project, Major Lazer.
