The Weeknd Confronts Madness, Mayhem ‘In the Night’
The Weeknd gets caught in the crosshairs of a deadly convergence of gangsters and dancers in the intense, disjointed video for his latest single, “In the Night.”
The video, which premiered via MTV, was directed by BRTHR and co-stars the R&B singer’s girlfriend, Bella Hadid, as a waitress at a seedy nightclub frequented by unseemly patrons. One man takes a particular liking to Hadid’s character, and the Weeknd watches helplessly as she and the other dancers are taken advantage of.
The clip grows increasingly disorienting, building to a chaotic sequence in which Hadid and co. finally dole out stabbings and asphyxiations to the deserving clientele. The man from earlier, however, tracks down the Weeknd in the final scene, placing a gun to his head — but luckily the R&B singer’s knight in knee-highs has killer aim.
“In the Night” is the latest offering off The Weeknd’s breakout 2015 LP, The Beauty Behind the Madness, which helped the Canadian singer garner seven Grammy nominations including Album of the Year and Record of the Year for “Can’t Feel My Face.”
