The Stepkids ease into a smooth, mesmerizing strut on their new track “The Lottery,” but there’s a lot more involved than just glistening keys and swooning falsettos. The funky, jazzy Connecticut trio also play it cool with delightfully smoky grooves, all the while contemplating life’s big risks and choices.
“‘The Lottery’ is about the gamble of different sides of life,” guitarist and vocalist Jeff Gitelman tells Rolling Stone. “The gamble of love, the gamble of business and the general risk of following your heart.”
“The Lottery” will be on the Stepkids’ album, Troubadour, out September 9th on Stones Throw.
