The Roots’ Black Thought Raps Perfect ‘Game of Thrones’ Primer
Game of Thrones is heavy on twisting plotlines, so viewers may need a quick primer on what happened in Season Four before Season Five premieres on April 12th. Thanks to an audience suggestion on The Tonight Show, The Roots‘ Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter gave GoT fans the perfect catch-up rap as they prepare for the new episodes.
“Tariq, you’re a big fan of Game of Thrones, right?” asked host Jimmy Fallon before. Black Thought then launched into a perfect summary of the show’s most recent big plot points, from King Joffrey’s death to the introduction of White Walkers. “It’s nothin’ but drama, it’s nothin’ but drama yeah,” rapped Trotter towards the end of his fanboy moment.
The month of the hit show’s return has come with a huge surprise for fans of George R.R. Martin’s book series as well. Though the release date of The Winds of Winter, the sixth book in Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, has yet to be revealed, the author posted a new excerpt from it on his site. The teaser follows Sansa Stark, who now lives under the alias of Alayne and cares for Lord Robert Arryn of Vale. This is the second excerpt from the highly anticipated sequel Martin has released; the last came in May 2014 when he posted a portion of a chapter titled “Mercy.”
Last month, HBO released Catch the Throne, a Game of Thrones-themed mixtape featuring tracks from famous fans of the show, including Snoop Dogg, Anthrax, Talib Kweli and Ty Dolla $ign.
