The Polyphonic Spree Raise Their Spirits on ‘Hold Yourself Up’ – Song Premiere

When lead singer Tim DeLaughter croons about “Anticipation, all this frustration” on the Polyphonic Spree’s newest track, “Hold Yourself Up,” he probably isn’t referring to the process of making its accompanying album, Yes, It’s True. The way he tells it, the album — which contains the symphonic pop band’s first original material since 2007 — emerged from a series of relaxed, unorthodox recording sessions. The group chose to produce the music in distinct stages, even taking a break midway to record a separate collection of holiday covers.

Now, Rolling Stone has an exclusive first taste of the new album with “Hold Yourself Up,” an optimistic slice of pop that features sprightly chimes and bells, plus the six-piece choir that has become standard issue on most Spree tracks.

“There comes a time when you must dance your way across the room to let them know you’re alive,” DeLaughter tells Rolling Stone. “This is the song you will see me moving to. I’m glad it’s mine!”
