The Misfits have had countless members and many iterations, but on their new live album DEA.D.ALIVE, frontman Jerry Only tightened the focus to post-1983 material. It was a fitting choice, as this is their first proper live album since the Eighties. “There’s a young audience for the Misfits; new generations discover us every day,” Only told Rolling Stone earlier this month. “There’s only so much ground you can cover on one album. We wanted to focus on the second and third wave of the Misfits’ evolution with DEA.D.ALIVE, because none of these songs have ever been included on a proper live Misfits album before.”

13 Bands That Always Think It’s Halloween: The Misfits

DEA.D.ALIVE features recordings from the Misfits’ Halloween shows last year, when they took over Times Square in New York and returned to New Jersey for a hometown encore. The 14 tracks span recent burners from their disc The Devil’s Rain, including “Land of the Dead” and “Curse of the Mummy’s Hand,” to older cuts like American Psycho‘s “Dig Up Her Bones,” as well as a cover of “Science Fiction/Double Feature” from The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Even with this new live album, Only is still open to releasing old Misfits live recordings. “There are some great live recordings of the ’77-’83 material that we performed together back in the day that remain unreleased, just sitting in the vaults,” he said earlier this month. “It’s not out of the realm of possibility that Glenn [Danzig] and I might evaluate some of that stuff in the not-too-distant future and consider bringing it to the fans in a joint effort.”

DEA.D.ALIVE will be released on February 5th.
