The Julie Ruin Cross the Globe for ‘Just My Kind’ Video
The Julie Ruin’s Kathleen Hanna plunges herself into beach water, while keyboardist Kenny Mellman hammers away at his instrument in the middle of a stream in the relatively wet video for their song “Just My Kind,” an upbeat rocker off their debut Run Fast. None of the musicians play together in the clip – Kathi Wilcox plays an upright bass in an elevator, drummer Carmine Covelli plays in a field and guitarist Sara Landeau plays among monuments and plant life – and Hanna, wearing a Minor Threat T-shirt, drifts farther away from her bandmates as she subsequently sings underwater.
Where Did the Julie Ruin’s ‘Oh Come On’ Rank Among the 100 Best Songs of 2013?
Each band member shot their respective part in different locales, including Hawaii, New York City, Australia and the Catskill Mountains. The video credits four camerapersons, including Hanna and husband/Beastie Boy Adam Horovitz.
In other news for Hanna and Wilcox, their previous band, riot grrrl scene leaders Bikini Kill, is putting out The First Two Records as a digital reissue on April 29th. As with the similarly titled 1994 CD release, the compilation collects their Bikini Kill and Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah EPs from 1992 and 1993. The new edition contains seven tracks that will appear on an expanded version of Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah, which will come out on April 15th. The group will reissue an expanded CD release of The First Two Records later this summer.
