No need to adjust your computer screen – the kaleidoscopic, low-budget look of Nashville rockers the Features’ video for “How It Starts” is completely intentional. The aesthetic fits the group’s psychedelic-tinged garage jam, as well as their nostalgia.
“I’m a big fan of those old, live music shows like Beat Club, Old Grey Whistle Test, Midnight Special, etc., and thought it would be cool to shoot a video in that style,” drummer Rollum Haas tells Rolling Stone of the clip. “The Beat Club ones are particularly hilarious and interesting to me because they gave the bands room to stretch out and the visuals they chose had no obvious connection to the music being played.”
