Tegan and Sara Plot Headlining North American Tour
Tegan and Sara announced a headlining North American tour behind their upcoming eighth studio LP, Love You to Death. The expansive 40-date trek kicks off September 9th in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and ends November 16th in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The indie-pop duo have also revealed dates for London and Australia with more international shows to be announced soon.
Tickets will go on sale Friday, April 29th via the band’s website. Tegan and Sara will donate one dollar from each North American ticket sale to charitable organizations via Plus One.
The duo previously announced a round of international dates for July, along with a trio of May shows in Los Angeles and New York City preceding the June 3rd release of Love You to Death.
Singer-songwriter Sara Quin detailed the duo’s creative process in a Rolling Stone interview and said songs like the single “Boyfriend” emerged by challenging themselves to write in a straight-forward pop style. Presenting the song to Grammy-winning producer Greg Kurstin, who has penned pop hits for singers like Adele and Britney Spears, was still nerve-wracking, Quin added.
“[Kurstin] was like, ‘I understand why you’re feeling frustrated by this one, but once we strip away what’s there and re-approach the instrumentation, the song itself is great,'” she said. “He had to part that cloud for me; I was stuck on my original arrangement, but then it was suddenly like, ‘Oh shit, this could be a single.'”
