Tech N9ne Puts a ‘Hiccup’ in Evildoers’ Plans – Premiere

Rapper shouts out Charles Ramsey and Pussy Riot

The video for Tech N9ne’s “Hiccup” starts with a would-be robber getting his brains blown out by a quick-thinking shopkeeper. In line with the manic world of Tech N9ne, the video then runs backwards, showing the steps just before the robbery, sometimes freezing or flickering, until it reveals the robber’s shocking motivation. Meanwhile, Tech N9ne raps and sings over a full band (including Limp Bizkit’s Wes Borland) banging out jagged rap-metal riffs. Also in true Tech N9ne form, the eccentric emcee gives a shout-out to Pussy Riot and name-checks Charles Ramsey, the man who was pivotal in freeing the victims of Ariel Castro.

“It came to me in a dream,” Tech N9ne tells Rolling Stone. “There are certain things that I wanted to touch on with that song, like Charles Ramsey. It’s about evil people in the world who think they’re going to get away with bad things, but there’s always a hiccup in their plans, because evil shall not prevail over angels.”

The song is taken from Tech N9ne’s Therapy EP, which followed the Something Else LP this year. Despite his massive amount of new material, Tech N9ne says he’s already working on his next LP for 2014, tentatively titled Special Effects.
