T.I., Young Thug Toast High-Class Lifestyle on New Song ‘The Weekend’

T.I. recruited Young Thug for “The Weekend,” a breezy new song on which the duo celebrate their elevated status in rap. The track appears on T.I.’s upcoming 10th album, Dime Trap, out October 5th via Epic Records/Grand Hustle.
“If you gon’ measure my bad more than you measure my good/ Just think it coulda been worse – I could be dead in the hood,” T.I. observes in his reliably smooth flow over a glimmering electric guitar pattern. “Instead I’m out here with Swift, poppin’ bottles and shit/ Tell me how we gettin’ it – it feels like the Nineties again, damn.”
Young Thug adds his own verse and sings the cut’s auto-tuned hook. “It’s goin’ down every weekend/ Malibu, top gone, everything for the weekend,” he boasts on the chorus between “yeehaw” shouts, adding, “Summertime, bathin’ suit, jump in the pool for the weekend/ I can make any bitch leave her man just for the weekend.”
T.I. premiered the song Thursday during a medley on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that also included his recent Meek Mill collaboration “Jefe.” Both songs, along with the Yo Gotti-supported “Wraith,” appear on Dime Trap. The rapper has been working on the LP since at least 2015, and he told Rolling Stone that year that Dr. Dre helmed “a few” sessions for the project.
The emcee also co-curated the first-ever Pop-Up Trap Music Museum, which launches in Atlanta, Georgia on September 30th. The museum celebrates the city’s prominent trap culture, highlighting the contributions of artists like T.I., Young Jeezy, Gucci Mane, 21 Savage, 2 Chainz, Rick Ross and Future.
