T.I. says he’s still working with Australian rapper/Grand Hustle signee Iggy Azalea, despite stating in a recent radio interview that their relationship had taken “a bit of a rest stop.” In a new interview with The Associated Press, T.I. calls Azalea his “little sister,” adding, “That’s still my partner.”

”Her life has taken her in a different direction,” he continues. “My life is still as it was before. But Iggy is doing what she feels makes Iggy happy. That’s what she should do. We’re focused on making the next Iggy record and [dodging] the same adversities we faced last time.”

During his widely publicized interview with New York radio station Hot 97, T.I. addressed the fragile state of his partnership with Azalea. The “Fancy” rapper feuded with Azealia Banks last year via Twitter, inspiring Q-Tip to pen a lengthy tweet missive urging the Australian to recognize hip-hop’s relationship with race and politics. Azalea initially responded with the dismissive tweet, “I’m also not going to sit on Twitter & play hip-hop squares with strangers to somehow prove I deserve to be a fan of or influenced by hip-hop.”

In his Hot 97 interview, T.I. explained, “After I kind of had smoothed it over like, ‘Okay, what is really meant to be said here is…’ After it was cool, everything was cool, and then they kind of came back and undid what I had just [done]. I’ma be all the way real, I’m a loyal partner. If I rock with you I’m gon’ rock with you … I really do feel that [Iggy’s team] just needed a little more time to adjust, which I feel they can do. They have the talent, they have the charisma.”

Now T.I. has clarified his comments to AP. “It’s definitely not a ‘sever my ties, walk away, I’m upset’ thing,” he says. “It was moreso like, ‘OK, you have a lot on your plate right now. I’m going to pull back or wait until you come to a place where you’re ready to come back to the table, so we can start again and make history some more.'”

T.I. added that he hasn’t spoken to Azalea since the Hot 97 interview, but did read tweets the rapper posted on Thursday. “Here’s the deal, I am still signed to Tip and do business with him,” she wrote, adding, “Personally, I don’t think the radio is the place to talk about your personal issues with someone that’s part of your team.” She ended by noting, “I’m sure Tip will publicly clarify what he meant when he feels he has the right platform to do so and other than that, I’m chillin.”

“We speak to each other without having to speak to each other,” T.I. told AP. “It’s funny sometimes, but we’re straight.”
