SXSW Teases 2014 Lineup

The annual South by Southwest Music Festival will take place from March 11th to the 16th next year, and its organizers are beginning to announce the bands who will perform. The most notable artists in the initial lineup are the Texas roots-rock trio Los Lonely Boys, who scored double-platinum sales for their 2004 album, and 24-year-old Ohio-based singer-songwriter and Black Keys buddy Jessica Lea Mayfield.

The list contains 183 names, less than 10 percent of the 2,200 artists who will perform at the event. Other standouts for 2014 so far include former Refused frontman Dennis Lyxzén’s new-wavey post-punk group INVSN, Chicago-based alt-rock mainstays Urge Overkill, British metalcore screamers Bring Me the Horizon, Bauhaus and Love and Rockets bassist David J, New York-based rock-and-soul DJ Jonathan Toubin, Shaggs frontwoman Dot Wiggin and her band and Brooklyn garage rockers the Men. The lineup will expand greatly in the months to come.
A number of high-profile performers played this year’s SXSW, including Justin Timberlake, Prince, Iggy & the Stooges, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Baauer and Trinidad James. The conference also served as the place where artists where “I Don’t Care” songstresses Icona Pop and pop-rock phenoms Haim first turned heads.
Many of the event’s music-industry-focused panels have already been announced, covering topics ranging from the “New Era of A&R” to a discussion about rock groups going Broadway. The panel schedule will continue to evolve along with the music lineup.
