Stream Pharrell’s New Album ‘G I R L’

Less than a week before its official release, Pharrell Williams has made his second album G I R L available for streaming on iTunes Radio.
The 10-track follow-up to 2006’s In My Mind, featuring guest appearances by Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus, Daft Punk and Alicia Keys, is set for release on Monday, March 3rd, one day after Pharrell performs his Oscar-nominated lead single “Happy” at the Academy Awards.

Pharrell recently explained the meaning behind the name. “The reason why I named it G I R L in capital letters is because when you look at it, it looks a little weird,” he said. “And the reason why it does is because society is a little unbalanced. Women have been so good to me over this entire career and they’ve done so much for my family. Everything I’ve ever gotten is because they’ve paid for [it], so they’re, like, my bosses — indirectly and directly — you guys are like my bosses. So for me, I wanted to analyze that for a second.”
A 30-second trailer released last week gave slight insight into the album. A string quartet soundtracked the trailer, which shows the producer dancing in the studio juxtaposed with an orchestra and many, many fedoras. In the end, a sunglasses-clad Pharrell sheds a solitary tear.
Expect to see and hear a lot from the producer in the coming weeks. “Coming off the Grammys, his performance at the NBA All-star Game that showed the depth and the breadth of his work, the Brit Awards and the Oscars – it’s taking advantage of the global spotlight on him,” Columbia Records senior VP of marketing Scott Greer told Billboard.
And there’s still four days left to buy the singer’s “mountain” hat on eBay. The hat, which took over your social media platform of choice a few weeks back, is being auctioned off for charity and is currently up to $15,100.
Pharrell announced that he’ll be celebrating International Day of Happiness on March 20th, but has yet to disclose any specifics.
