St. Vincent will return with her fourth album early next year. The 11-song LP, St. Vincent, is due out on February 25th. The album will be mastermind Annie Clark’s first release on Loma Vista after her previous releases came out on 4AD.
The singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist recorded St. Vincent in Dallas with Dap-Kings drummer Homer Steinweiss and Midlake percussionist McKenzie Smith. “I knew the groove needed to be paramount,” Clark said in a press release. “I wanted to make a party record you could play at a funeral.”
John Congleton (the Mountain Goats, Modest Mouse) is back as producer; he also helmed two of St. Vincent’s previous albums, Actor in 2009 and Strange Mercy in 2011. The latter was St. Vincent’s most recent solo album, though Clark collaborated with David Byrne on the 2012 release Love This Giant.
Clark is streaming the first song from St. Vincent, “Birth in Reverse,” which powers ahead on a propulsive beat topped with sinewy guitar licks, dense, chunky rhythm parts and crackling synthesizers.
