Spector Free on $1M Bond

Slain woman was forty-year-old actress

Police in Los Angeles say they are not pursuing any other suspects
in the shooting death of a woman at rock producer Phil Spector’s
Los Angeles-area mansion yesterday. Officers arrested Spector early
Monday after responding to a 5 a.m. emergency call and finding a
woman shot to death in the foyer of the Alahambra, California,
home, and a weapon they say was used in the killing.

Spector posted $1 million bond yesterday, and is free pending
his arraignment this week. Robert Shapiro, the high-profile defense
attorney best known for his work on behalf of O.J. Simpson, will
represent the sixty-two-year-old producer in court.

The woman, police confirmed, was Lana Clarkson, a forty-year-old
Los Angeles resident and actress. Her film and television credits
include Scarface, Three’s Company and
Knightrider.

Officials could not elaborate on the details of Clarkson’s
relationship to Spector, but they did reveal that the two
apparently arrived at the house together in Spector’s black
Mercedes sedan that was parked in the driveway, its passenger door
ajar.
