On “Money,” Jamaican dancehall reggae star Vybz Kartel mixes up his barbed spitfire flow with some chorus croons in Auto-Tune. “I need it for payin’ my bills,” sings Vybz in the chorus, confessing the less glamorous side of his constant hustle. The beat thumps less than the usual Vybz bangers, but “Money” maintains the dancehall bounce with surprising subtlety. Vbyz Kartel is currently incarcerated on a murder charge; the track was recorded before he was taken into custody.
“Money” is from the August 14th deluxe edition re-release of Kingston Story, available for preorder here.
