German producer Alex Ridha – better known under his stage name, Boys Noize – has announced the October 2nd release of his third album, Out of the Black, on his label, Boysnoize Records. According to Ridha, the album takes its name from the fact that he mainly produces music at night. He began work on the album after two years of nonstop producing for artists such as Scissor Sisters, Spank Rock and Santigold.

The album’s opening track, “What You Want,” combines golden-era hip hop beats with Kraftwerk-style robot refrains for a rousing workout. According to Ridha, the song attempts to emulate the “raw and rough sound” of his earliest music, with a particular interest in the beats and styles of Eighties hip hop.

“This particular track was inspired by the vibes I get from the Beastie Boys, for instance,” Ridha told Rolling Stone. “Their Licensed to Ill album is one of my all-time favorite records, and to me ‘What You Want’ has some sort of B-boy style mixed with my obsession on robot vocals and modern sound aesthetics. This song combines a lot of things I love about electronic music.”

Boysnoize, which Ridha founded in 2005, now hosts more than a dozen electronic artists. The roster includes Spank Rock and acclaimed New York rapper Le1f, who produced the original version of Das Racist’s breakout single “Combination Taco Bell & Pizza Hut.”
