Singer-songwriter Marvin Etzioni teamed up with vocalist John Doe to record the fired-up rock track “Grapes of Wrath,” which will appear on Etzioni’s fourth solo album Marvin Country!, due out on April 17th. The track, which was recorded live, was inspired by a surprise heartbreak while Etzioni was touring with Lone Justice. “During the early days of Lone Justice, I had just broken up with a girl. Moved out. And a few days later she called. Told me she was getting married. I hung up and wrote ‘The Grapes of Wrath,'” says Etzioni.
While working on Marvin Country!, Etzioni called John Doe for additional vocals on a track that he wanted to be spirited and guitar-fueled. “I asked him to turn everything up. As loud as it would go. To the point of no return,” Etzioni says of working with Doe in the studio. “John was great to work with. He immediately got the spirit and energy of the song. It’s still one of my favorites.”
Marvin Country! won’t be released until April 17th, but you can stream Marvin Etzioni’s “The Grapes of Wrath” exclusively on RollingStone.com.
