Masked metal group Slipknot have posted the speedy new song, “The Negative One,” streaming on their website, which ostensibly offers a preview of what fans can expect on their upcoming fifth LP, their first since 2008’s All Hope Is Gone. Over a slithery guitar riff and chunky rhythm, vocalist Corey Taylor sings about the “Lord of Lies” and a chorus that ends with “opposing sides, your choices are the negative one and me.” The group will release a video for the song on August 5th.

Taylor has been teasing the album’s release over the summer, and most recently told Loudwire that the LP was “98 percent done” in July. “It’s been a real positive experience just from an artistic and lyrical standpoint,” he said of making the record. “There’s something very vital with what we’re trying to do. There’s something very visceral with the emotion we’re playing with and trying to tell the story of a band that’s gone through hell, and yet we’re back. It’s been really fulfilling.”

The album will be the group’s first since the 2010 death of bassist and songwriter Paul Gray and the departure of founding drummer Joey Jordison this past December. The group has yet to reveal who will be performing in the rhythm section on the album, though Donnie Steele, a guitar player from one of the group’s early lineups, has been playing bass at their concerts since 2011.

Although the band has yet to reveal a release date for the album, all attendees of its Knotfest this October will receive a digital copy of the record when it comes out. Slipknot will headline two days of the three-night festival playing unique set lists that will showcase new songs and a new stage set. Other performers on the fest include Danzig, Five Finger Death Punch, Volbeat and Anthrax.
