Slick Rick Celebrates Citizenship With U.S. ‘Victory’ Tour
After decades of having tours meddled with by immigration issues, British-born rapper Slick Rick will celebrate his newfound U.S. citizenship by roaming the country on a summer tour. The hip-hop pioneer, who recently told Rolling Stone “I’m probably going to go on a victory world tour” after gaining his citizenship, kicks off his 18-date tour May 3rd in Louisville, Kentucky.
“I’m celebrating a new beginning and am thankful for the many blessings already coming my way,” Slick Rick said in a statement. “One is the blessing of doing what I do best – perform – to celebrate the victory of citizenship after living in this country for so many years. We will celebrate in style.” The rapper also added that a New York concert would be added in the near future.
Rick was granted his U.S. citizenship in a ceremony in early April after a 23-year battle with immigration officials stemming from a 1991 attempted murder conviction. “It’s a weight off the shoulders,” the rapper told Rolling Stone. “It’s a good feeling: new opportunities, a fresh start.”
