From Kanye West to Skrillex, Chicago newcomer Vic Mensa is collecting famous collaborators quickly this year. “No Chill,” his heavy new track produced by Skrillex and Jahlil Beats, premiered during Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show one month after the rapper teased the track during a live performance.
“With a halo on my deal, I signed to Hov, I’m light-skinned Jesus,” Mensa raps about his recent Roc Nation signing. Like his previous single, “U Mad” featuring West, “No Chill” has a heavy, aggressive beat. Both tracks are a huge departure from “Down on My Luck,” his first major label single that was released via Virgin EMI last year.
Mensa kicked off his year with a co-sign from West, who featured Mensa — and singer Sia — on his single “Wolves” off his forthcoming LP Swish. The trio performed the dark track during the SNL 40 special in February. Mensa later appeared onstage with West and other artists during West’s explosive television debut of the single “All Day.”
Following the success of his 2015 album Recess, Skrillex has teamed up with fellow superstar DJ Diplo for the duo Jack Ü. The pair has toured their collaborative album extensively this year, and Skrillex has even relaunched his 2012 Full Flex Express train tour in Canada this month.
Both Skrillex and Mensa will join the Mad Decent Black Party tour later this month; Skrillex will perform both solo and with Diplo as part of Jack Ü. Mensa will also make an appearance at the Made in America festival in Philadelphia this September.
