Good news for Sharon Jones: the singer is storming back to music after cancer surgery earlier this year. Jones and her band, the Dap-Kings, were set to release Give the People What They Want on August 6th – along with accompanying tour dates – but had to shelve their plans in June after Jones was diagnosed with a stage one tumor in her bile duct.
Sharon Jones Recovering After Surgery
Now that Jones has recovered from surgery, she and the Dap-Kings will release Give the People What They Want on January 14th, and will also make a triumphant return to the stage on February 6th at New York’s Beacon Theater – the band’s first show in almost a year. “Without a doubt, this album is the greatest thing we’ve ever recorded and I’ve been anxious for the world to hear it,” bassist and bandleader Bosco Mann said in a statement. “Everything will culminate in February at the Beacon.”
