See Wilco Perform David Bowie’s ‘Space Oddity’ in Brooklyn

Jeff Tweedy and company put sparse, understated spin on 1969 classic

A night after appearing on Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Wilco performed Friday at Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre, where the group paid tribute to David Bowie by performing “Space Oddity.” Jeff Tweedy and company closed out their concert with the acoustic, understated rendition of the 1969 classic (via Jambase).

Tweedy previously remembered Bowie’s legacy alongside R.E.M.’s Peter Buck and Mike Mills, Sleater-Kinney’s Corin Tucker and members of the Minus Five at Buck’s Todos Santos Music Festival, with the one-off collective covering Bowie’s “Rebel Rebel,” “Jean Genie” and the Bowie-penned Mott the Hoople hit “All the Young Dudes.”

On Thursday, Wilco visited The Late Show to perform their Star Wars track “Random Name Generator”; the band has been playing their surprise 2015 LP in its entirety throughout their winter tour. Tweedy also reappeared at the episode’s end to lull Colbert to sleep with a solo acoustic number.

Wilco’s Star Wars tour continues Saturday night in Brooklyn.
