Chicago rock outfit preps new album ‘Terrible Human Beings’

Chicago rock outfit the Orwells hit the campaign trail in the sinister video for “They Put a Body in the Bayou” off their upcoming album, Terrible Human Beings.

The clip finds the band playing Secret Service agents for a slick-haired politician, who shakes hands, takes selfies and delivers a stump speech before being led back to his hotel. As “They Put a Body in the Bayou” builds to a ramshackle rocker, the Orwells escort several women into the politician’s room to indulge his fantasies, but when they go to retrieve their boss, they find him dead with a ball-gag in his mouth and “Oink!” written on his chest. Thinking fast, the band pulls back singer Mario Cuomo’s hair, puts him in a pair of glasses and sends him right back out on the trail.

“They Put a Body in the Bayou” follows the Orwells’ latest track “Buddy,” which arrived earlier this month and is also set to appear on Terrible Human Beings. The group recorded the album at Chicago’s Electrical Audio with producer Jim Abbiss, and guitarist Matt O’Keefe credited the Pixies as a primary inspiration (album cut “Black Francis” is named after the Pixies frontman).

“I think that’s where a lot of trying to make the songs and the guitar parts very simple was coming from, because the Pixies are kings of that,” O’Keefe said in a statement. “We’ve always been a simple band, but this time it was about trying to keep everything straightforward; nothing flashy.”

Terrible Human Beings follows 2014’s Disgraceland and arrives February 17th via Canvasback Music.

The Orwells will kick off a U.S. tour November 1st at DC9 in Washington D.C. A portion of the proceeds from tickets and merchandise will support Off the Street Club, the oldest Boys and Girls Club in Chicago.
