See Pusha T, Tim Kaine Talk Police Reform, Education in Clinton Video

“There’s a lot of reforms that are necessary,” senator tells rapper about Clinton administration’s plans

Pusha T campaigned with vice presidential nominee and fellow Virginian Tim Kaine in the swing state of Florida to encourage residents to vote. The Hillary Clinton campaign shared video of their conversation, with the rapper and the senator discussing police reform, education and what a Clinton presidency would mean for the country.

“Just like the election of President Obama moved us forward as a nation, because there had never been an African-American president, the election of Hillary Clinton would move us forward as a nation because there has never been a woman president,” Kaine told the rapper.

“So while there are still challenges out there, those challenges only get tougher if those of us who have progressive values and believe in equality don’t get out on the field and really push.”

“My biggest concern is the criminal justice system. We’re definitely on the same page in regards to knowing that it’s flawed and needs to be fixed,” Pusha T told Kaine.

“There’s a lot of reforms that are necessary,” Kaine responded. “There’s policing reforms to make sure that we have communities where everyone respects the law, but people need to be respected by the law too. That’s really important, and in some of our communities, that’s not the case. And we can also keep better data about the number of citizens that are killed in interactions with police.”

Pusha T and Kaine also talked about what the Clinton administration has planned to eliminate systematic racism, improve health care and find an equality in education, which would include expanding early childhood education and making higher education more affordable.

“There’s more progress to achieve, but we keep moving forward,” Kaine said.

The Virginia senator, a huge music fan, also applauded Pusha T’s talents.

“I’m so impressed with not only your art but that you are speaking a message to people and helping to advance our country and our commonwealth,” Kaine told Pusha T. “You have a real ability to influence things.”
