See Nick Cave Tell Strange Bryan Ferry Tale in Book Teaser

Clip is based around the singer-songwriter’s Denver entry in his new tome ‘The Sick Back Song’

Nick Cave paints a surrealistic picture involving Roxy Music frontman Bryan Ferry, Patti Smith and his unborn twin children, among other colorful characters in a video promoting his new book, The Sick Bag Song. “I’m a fucking vampire!” he bellows at one particularly dramatic turn in the narrative, which culls from an entry in the tome.

The story in the clip is part flashback, revolving around a visit to Ferry’s house in West Sussex in 2000, and part gonzo recollection of reading Patti Smith’s book Woolgathering on Colfax Avenue in the Mile High City and the effect it had on him. The video focuses on Cave in what looks like a bedroom or a hotel room.

Filmmakers Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, who co-directed the Cave quasi-doc 20,000 Days on Earth, made the clip, which is titled “Denver, Colorado,” because that’s where Cave wrote that portion of the book. While on his U.S. tour last year, Cave began writing what his publisher describes as an “exploration of love, inspiration and memory” on airplane sick bags. Cave previously shared a similar clip, set in Portland, Oregon.

The Sick Bag Song book, which is available in standard and deluxe formats, contains poetry, lyrics, memories, musings and journal entries. Its “unlimited edition” contains a boxed, hardback printing of the book, an audio download of Cave reading the book and an eBook edition. The limited edition includes a “fully functional sick bag, signed and personally customized by Nick with notes, doodles and musings,” according to the publisher. It also includes a signed version of the book and the audio version on white vinyl, as well as the perks of the unlimited edition.

To promote the book, Cave is holding readings, followed by audience Q&A’s, in Los Angeles (April 8th), New York (April 10th) and London (April 16th).
