See Cassius, Mike D, Cat Power’s Bizarre, Tropical ‘Action’ Video
French electronic duo Cassius recently returned from over a half-decade of inactivity with “Action,” a new single featuring the Beastie Boys‘ Mike D and Cat Power. On Thursday, Cassius shared the video for the track, with the dance duo taking a bizarre trip to an acid-baked tropical island overrun with people in gorilla suits, dancing women and a boiling ketchup volcano.
Speaking to Pitchfork earlier in the month, Mike D said the collaboration came together after Cassius’ Philippe Zdar played the Beastie Boy and Chan “Cat Power” Marshall the track in New York. “The song came with this world liberation theme and then I came with a modern-day relationship theme, and somehow the two went together,” Mike D said. “It’s kind of like toast and Vegemite go together only in Australia.”
Zdar had previous experience working with both artists, mixing the Beastie Boys’ Hot Sauce Committee Part Two as well as Cat Power’s 2012 LP Sun.
Zdar and his partner-in-Cassius Boom Bass recently confirmed they were working on their first proper studio album since 2006’s 15 Again, although they have yet to reveal a release date.
