See Blood Orange, A$AP Rocky Debut Tender ‘Chewing Gum’ on ‘Kimmel’
Blood Orange debuted a pleading new song titled “Chewing Gum” on Thursday on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where the singer was joined by Harlem rap star A$AP Rocky and Memphis stalwart Project Pat.
“Chewing Gum” melds the sugary end of Eighties pop — soft, gleaming synthesizers, sighing vocals — with the fierce drum programming that characterizes modern recordings. The hook is a simple entreaty: “Tell me what you want from me.”
On Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Blood Orange stood behind a keyboard at centerstage. A ring of supporters sat around him, facing the audience and casually head-bobbing in time to the rhythm. That group included A$AP Rocky, who rose to deliver a slick, partially sung verse.
“Chewing Gum” is set to appear on Negro Swan, which is due out August 24th. A$AP Rocky and Project Pat are just two of the guests on the LP, which also includes features from Puff Daddy, Steve Lacy and Georgia Anne Muldrow. The singer previously shared “Charcoal Baby” and “Jewelry” from the album.
Blood Orange’s last album, Freetown Sound, came out in 2016.
