Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar surprised the BET Awards audience with a special performance of their collaboration "Freedom" off Beyoncé's latest album, Lemonade. Their Sunday night appearance was the first time the pair have performed together onstage.
Female dancers shrouded in red lights made their way through the audience while an excerpt of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech played over the speakers. From there, Beyoncé revealed herself onstage in the middle of her line of dancers who performed atop water.
The dancers kicked and splashed through the water during Beyoncé's verses until a line of male dancers also showed up as a bombastic fire display appeared. Lamar rose from below the stage in a hoodie, adding new lyrics before rapping his original "Freedom" verse. The singer and rapper splashed in the water as the song came to an end.
