See Bell Biv DeVoe Sing First New Song in 15 Years

After a 15-year hiatus, Bell Biv DeVoe have put out “Run,” a song that revels in the past. The track itself finds each of the former New Edition members, who scored major hits in 1990 with “Poison” and “Do Me!” complaining about a relationship where their lovers run away whenever they get close. But everything else about it hearkens back to the group members’ glory days in the Eighties and Nineties.

A video for the tune opens with the trio climbing into a Jeep as “Poison” plays, before the screen bears a Run-DMC–like logo for the song: “BBD-Run.” Then they kick into the same Herb Alpert sample (“Rise”) used in the Notorious B.I.G.’s “Hypnotize.” Then the rest of the clip shows women dancing in front of their vehicle as they sing – the hallmark of MTV’s classic era.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the threesome will be putting out a new album, Three Stripes =, on January 27th. It will follow up 2001’s BBD and their most recent reunion, this past March, on Johnny Gill’s “This One’s for Me and You.”

The trio is also working on a three-part BET miniseries, The New Edition Story, though they have not yet revealed a projected run date. The three singers’ last album together was New Edition’s 2004 LP One Love, a reunion record that notably did not feature the return of Bobby Brown. Brown later re-joined the group in 2004, singing alongside his mid-Eighties replacement, Gill.
