Sasquatch! Festival Cancels Second Weekend

The Sasquatch! Music Festival is scaling back its plan to expand into a second holiday weekend this year after the extension failed to generate enough support from fans. The festival’s organizers announced on Friday that they were canceling the second weekend of the festival.

Sasquatch! announced last June that it would be adding a second leg of the festival at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington, hosting a separate lineup over the Fourth of July weekend after the traditional Memorial Day weekend event. The second weekend was to feature sets from Soundgarden, New Order, Frank Ocean, Kraftwerk and Neutral Milk Hotel, among others.

The festival explained in a statement on its website that the additional weekend hadn’t received the same degree of enthusiasm as the earlier one. “The Sasquatch! community has spoken,” Live Nation Seattle President Jeff Trisler said in the statement. “They continue to support the traditional Memorial Day Weekend event with great enthusiasm. Unfortunately, the second weekend was not embraced. We felt it was better to cancel the new event now and give everyone time to make alternative plans for the Fourth of July weekend. Going forward, Sasquatch! Music Festival will be at the Gorge Amphitheatre on the weekend the fans want: Memorial Day Weekend only.”

Ticketmaster will issue refunds for the canceled weekend, and the festival organizers note that some of the acts who were scheduled to perform are making plans for shows at other venues in the area over Fourth of July Weekend.

The Memorial Day weekend lineup is still set to include Outkast, the National, Queens of the Stone Age, M.I.A. and many more from May 23rd through May 25th.
